Skills Recognition
Have you ever worked in a job or several different jobs in the one industry, but have nothing to show for it, other than a few lines on your CV?
Innoven offers you the opportunity to convert these skills and knowledge into a full or part qualification.
For example, have you worked in the hospitality industry? You may have the necessary skills and knowledge for a Certificate II in Hospitality … or maybe an even higher qualification!
Employers are looking for people with the right skills and knowledge for the job they are offering. Having a qualification (or part of one) is a great way to tell the employer about what you have to offer.
The process of matching your individual skills and knowledge (often gained over many years of work) with a Nationally Recognised qualification is called Skills Recognition or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Skills Recognition
Skills Recognition is an assessment process, and is the name applied to the overall process of formally recognising your skills and knowledge (i.e. issuing a full or part qualification).
Cost
There are no fees or charges for the Skills Recognition process.
How long will it take?
As a general rule, you will be told the results of your assessment within 6 weeks of your enrolment date. This may vary slightly depending on how many units you need to be assessed in and your availability to meet with your assessor.
Process
Your first contact will be the Skills Recognition Administrator at your campus. She will offer to refer you to the SkillsStore, and help you set up an appointment if this is what you want. Once you have been to the SkillsStore, let your Administrator know and she will:
- give you a copy of the Candidate’s Guide to Skills Recognition
- tell the Skills Recognition Assessor (for your qualification) that you are interested in the process.
Once you have been contacted by the assessor, you will have a meeting to discuss the assessment process.
Your assessor will ask you to provide a CV and any other documents you have relating to your experience (such as any qualifications you already have, job descriptions, training completed etc).
Once you have finalised what qualification (or part qualification) you want to be assessed in, your assessor will help you prepare for the assessment process … and when you are ready, your assessor will complete your enrolment and begin the assessment.
The assessor will:
- Interview you
- Look at any documents you have
- Check with your nominated referees
They may also:
- Visit your workplace
- Ask you to demonstrate a particular skill
- Use any other method of assessment that will allow you to show your skills and knowledge
Once the assessor has evaluated the evidence, you will be given feedback and told the final results of your assessment. You will be issued with a Statement of Results and, if applicable, the relevant Certificate.
If you think this process could help you, please phone 13 SKILLSSTORE or contact Innoven on 03 5833 2519 and ask to speak to a Skills Recognition Administrator.
